Sheet Metal

Sheet metal can provide a distinctive architectural appeal to your building, and Carlson will provide a professional approach to your job.

Our in-house Architectural Sheet Metal Division features a custom fabrication shop that excels in designing quality, long-term solutions. Computerized brake and roll forming equipment enables us to customize a variety of roofing components, including:

  • Standing Seam Metal Roofing Systems – A popular roofing option that allows for many styles and materials. Metal roofs have a long life expectancy and can improve the overall appearance of a building.
  • Metal Wall Panels – Unlike most wall materials, metal wall panels allow for unique designs and low maintenance. They are also great for insulation and water barriers.
  • Copings – Copings are the protective cap on the top of a wall. This helps prevent water from entering the wall and also directs it away from dripping down the side of the wall.
  • Fascia – The fascia is the vertical section at the end of the rafters of the roof. Metal fascia lasts for a long time and helps prevent water from entering and damaging the roofing system or the interior of the building.
  • Gutters & Downspouts – Custom sheet metal gutters and downspouts can add to the appeal of a building and helps complement the metal roof. Gutters and downspouts need to be designed to accommodate the amount of water that will be coming off the roof.
  • Counter Flashings – This is an important part of the roofing system that prevents water from seeping in around chimneys and other rooftop equipment.
  • Equipment Screens – Also known as louvers, equipment screens help hide rooftop equipment from sight while allowing sufficient airflow.
  • De-icing Systems – Snow and ice happen especially in the overhangs of the roof and in the gutters. Our de-icing systems will help prevent the ice from forming ice dams and damaging your roof system and gutters.
  • Snow Guards/Bar Systems – Snow (& ice) sliding off a roof can cause damage to plants and people below. Snow guards and bar systems help to retain the snow allowing it to melt and break up before falling.
  • Composite Panels – Composite panels allow for additional colors and styles helping to enhance the design.

Rising to the Challenge

Carlson Roofing Sheet Metal SampleA perfect example of the scope of our expertise is the design and installation for Prairie School's Johnson Athletic Center in Racine. The work incorporated two standing-seam copper barrel roof systems along with a SBS-modified bitumen membrane roof system and a fully adhered EPDM roof system. The project was recognized with a National Roofing Contractor Association Gold Circle Award for Outstanding Workmanship/Low Slope.

Because of the complicated design, we were actually asked to assist with architectural plans and application techniques during the project's design phase. We installed a standing-seam copper metal roof system with a double-hem lock seam on the intersecting barrel roofs, and the two additional roofing systems on the areas between the two barrel roofs. Upon completion, Carlson had covered the roof and fascias with over 38 tons of 16-ounce copper.
